Discount & Markup Templates

Create reusable pricing adjustments to streamline order entry.

Discount and markup templates are reusable pricing adjustments you can apply to bookings when creating or editing orders. Instead of manually entering the same discount or surcharge each time, you define a template once and select it across multiple orders.

Template types

Each template is either a discount (reduces the price) or a markup (increases the price).

  • Discount — Subtracts from the booking price. Use for promotional offers, volume discounts, or early-bird pricing.
  • Markup — Adds to the booking price. Use for commissions, surcharges, or handling fees.

Calculation modes

Templates support two calculation modes:

Dynamic (percentage-based)

The adjustment is calculated as a percentage of the booking subtotal. When the subtotal changes, the adjustment recalculates automatically.

Example: A "10% Early Bird Discount" template applies 10% off regardless of the booking amount.

Fixed (flat amount)

The adjustment is a fixed currency amount that stays the same regardless of the booking subtotal.

Example: A "Handling Fee" template always adds a fixed amount to the booking.

Targeting product types

By default, a template applies to all booking lines when used. You can optionally restrict it to specific product types:

  • Accommodation
  • Activity
  • Flight
  • Rental Car
  • Ticket
  • Transportation
  • Insurance
  • Item
  • Accessory

Example: A "Flight Discount" template targeted to Flights only applies to flight booking lines, leaving accommodation and activity lines unchanged.

Leave the product type selection empty to apply the template to all booking lines.

Managing templates

Templates are found under Inventory > Discount & Markup Templates.

Creating a template

  1. Click Add to open the template form.
  2. Enter a name that describes the adjustment (e.g., "10% Early Bird Discount").
  3. Choose the type — Markup or Discount.
  4. Toggle Dynamic on for percentage-based, or leave it off for a fixed amount.
  5. Enter the percentage or fixed amount depending on the mode.
  6. Optionally select target product types to restrict where the template applies.
  7. Click Save.

Editing and deleting

Use the action menu on each template row to edit or delete it. Deleting a template does not affect orders that already used it — the adjustment remains on those bookings.

How templates are applied during booking

When you add or edit a discount or markup line on an order, the template workflow looks like this:

  1. You open an order and add a new booking line of type Discount or Markup.
  2. A template selector appears at the top of the form. Only templates whose target product types match the booking line's product type are shown. Templates with no product type restrictions appear for every line.
  3. Selecting a template pre-fills the line's name, calculation mode (percentage or fixed), and amount.
  4. You can still adjust any field before saving. The template is a starting point, not a constraint.
  5. Once saved, the booking line stands on its own. It is not permanently linked to the template.

Because templates are not linked after application, you can update or delete a template without affecting any existing order bookings that were created from it. This makes it safe to refine templates over time for future use.

Common use cases

Early-bird discount

Create a dynamic (percentage-based) discount template called "Early Bird 10%". Apply it to orders placed well in advance. Because it is percentage-based, the discount scales with the booking subtotal automatically.

Group discount (fixed amount)

Create a fixed-amount discount template called "Group Discount" for a set reduction you offer to group bookings. The same amount applies regardless of booking size.

Handling fee

Create a fixed-amount markup template called "Handling Fee" to add a standard processing charge to bookings. Target it to all product types so it appears on every booking line.

Flight-only commission

Create a dynamic markup template called "Flight Commission" targeted to the Flight product type. It only appears when you add a markup line to a flight booking, keeping other product types unaffected.

Seasonal surcharge

Create a fixed-amount markup template called "Peak Season Surcharge" targeted to Accommodation. Apply it during high-demand periods to add a flat surcharge on hotel bookings.

How it connects

  • Templates are applied when managing bookings within Orders. They streamline the creation of discount and markup booking lines by pre-filling values from a saved definition.
  • Product types correspond to the types defined in your Inventory and Trips products. A template targeted at specific product types will only appear as an option for booking lines of those types.
  • Templates work alongside the standard pricing set on inventory products. The product's rate calculation method determines the base price; templates add adjustments on top of that base during order entry.
